Experience

If you listened to Rush or Mike Medved today you probably heard Obama's comment on why he doesn't like Clarence Thomas. If you didn't, he said something along the lines of "I don't think he is exp--uh, a strong judge."

Oh yes. He remembered that hypocrisy is not usually a good thing when you're running for president. I can see him avoiding the issue like the plague in the near future.

Let's talk oil

You've probably already heard Nancy "Captain Planet" Pelosi's statement that she is trying to save the planet. She is pretty much all that stands in the way of drilling offshore and in the tundra of the far north, never mind that the oil we're getting now is coming from politically sensitive areas that often pay no mind to what they're doing to the environment. Never mind that the tundra is only politically sensitive to environmentalists. Common sense be damned, if she doesn't like the idea of interrupting the mating habits of a caribou, then you can bet we're not drilling. Switch us to wind power RIGHT THIS SECOND. Stop using your car. No oil for you. And you've probably also heard the oft-repeated cry that "drilling now won't help us for another ten years".

Whoever says this probably didn't pay attention in economics class. Way to go, guys!

Since I'm not an economist I'll explain it in terms I can understand without using a dictionary. An important part of the price--of anything, really--belongs in the hands of speculators. They say "Oil is really hard to come by these days! The price is going to go up." And it does. If suddenly there were a leap in supply, speculators would say "Oil is so plentiful these days, the price is going to drop like a rock." And it would.

The thing is, liberals don't want the price of oil to go down. The newspapers, if you trust them, have been reporting that traffic is thinner now, and more people are using the bus or riding their bikes. A few people who dislike paying $4.65 a gallon have even bought hybrids. Airlines are having financial trouble because their Boeing 747s use so much fuel. This, according to environmentalists, is a good thing, because that means we aren't using as much oil. We aren't raping the planet as much. Score one for Mother Nature! Now all we have to do is kill all the evil, evil corporate bigwigs and fork all power over to the UN, and life will be absolutely perfect.

How about moderation?

I'm not talking about government intervention, because we certainly don't need any more of that. Moderation meaning we shouldn't be on one extreme (sweat in your dark house and walk to work) or the other (oil now, oil tomorrow, oil forever). McCain is right on the money in terms of moderation. We can drill, and we'll use that oil while we develop alternative means of energy. It's not a flawless strategy but it's certainly better than what Pelosi and Obama and their ilk want us to do. And right now all we can do is take the best strategy and run with it. (Don't get me started on Obama's terrific display of drilling flip-floppery, a spectacle that would make John Kerry proud.)

Although I hope, fervently, that people will notice how dumb ethanol is. Corn? Really? Come on now. People are starving in third-world countries and liberals actually pushed corn fuel.

Race in the Race for Presidency

Unless you've been under a rock for a while, you probably know that Mr. Obama said something recently. He said a lot of things, of course, but the thing I'm talking about is his claim that his opponent is trying to make voters afraid of him because he doesn't "look like the presidents on the dollar bills". Something like that. So, it was probably a stealthy form of the race card. Because he isn't a white guy like Washington or Lincoln, McCain and Bush are trying to make you not want to vote for him.

My question about the race card is simple: WHO CARES?

It's such a stupid card to play anymore. We as Americans should have gotten over the race thing by the death of the great Martin Luther King, Jr. He told us that he wished for judgment by the content of character, not by skin color. And we know this by now, if not immediately when MLK was assassinated. Most of us know that the color of your skin pretty much just doesn't matter.

Allow me to paraphrase Bernard Goldberg in his book 100 People Who Are Screwing Up America: For liberals like the Obama camp, in their undying pessimism, it is always yesterday. For them, it is always Selma, Alabama, 1964.

I'm sad for Obama. He might have been living under a rock for a while to think people care he doesn't look like the presidents on the dollar bills.

Some questions for liberals

1. Why is it okay for everyone but conservatives to give their opinion on a college campus?
2. Why is it okay to punish white people of today for their ancestors' racism?
3. Why is it okay to compare the president to Hitler?
4. Why is anything that offends your typical white middle-class Christian American seen as "cutting-edge"?
5. Why is saying "under God" in the pledge so terrible, but burning the flag is "freedom of speech"?
6. Why does having a little love for your country make you backwards and ignorant?
7. Why is every creed okay except for anything derived from Christianity?
8. Why is it okay to make fun of poor whites, but if you make fun of poor blacks, you're racist?
9. Why do celebrities think people will find their political opinions fascinating and important?
10. Why are liberals so darn noisy and obnoxious?
